  • It's Mother's Day and easy to think of the usual suspects for gifts, such as flowers, chocolate, breakfast in bed, brunch or a trip to the flower market to purchase and plant annuals. We love having launched Flower Bombers in Denver as there are so many cool businesses here and a mindset that embraces new concepts and ideas. Not only are flowers being delivered to Mom's front door today, but flowers are showing up table-side during brunch at local faves like Punch Bowl Social and Del Frisco's. We're also serving up the Foxy Mama to the Denver flower lovin' moms who like a little pampering: we're delivering a manicure gift card from Base Coat Nail Salon and a bud vase of flowers popping with peonies, ranunculus and lots of color all across Denver metro.

Be sure to check out the Denver She Wrote blog for lots of fun ideas for Mom today.

    Happy Mother's Day!

  • Make + Believe. That's the message that drew a packed house in attendance on Saturday, June 25th at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in downtown Denver to hear over a dozen speakers on a range of inspiring and creative topics.

From Space Mining to the global water sanitation crisis here on Earth, from Sexting to Practical Futurism (by our friend Taylor Romero over at Spruce), attendees were challenged and inspired to think creatively and with purpose. Outside, the beautiful weather was perfect for the Experience portion of the event, held in the complex courtyard and sculpture garden. Exhibitors set up interactive displays, art works, and other engaging moments of inspiration (one of our faves: Pawsthetics, making 3D printed prosthetics for animals!). Check out some of our photos below.

In addition to sharing hundreds of flowers with our new friends outside, we worked with the leadership of TEDx to provide a thank you bouquet of beautiful flowers – roses, delphinium, and sunflowers, as shown below – for every speaker at the event. You can get our Summer Field while it's still available to order for only 50 bucks!

Such a great Denver day. Inspiring messages, new friends, food trucks, beautiful weather and beautiful flowers: it just doesn't get much better than that. Can't wait for the next event, TEDxMileHigh Women, coming this Fall!

  • Making Peaches & Cream

When we're working on the creation of a new flower arrangement, often the flowers do all the work for us. But we always keep an eye open for inspiration in the world, and we're feeling lucky we're in Denver, with so many cool creative people workin' hard for it. We're totally in love with the moodboards from our friends at ENLY and we recently partnered with Lyndse (the LY half of the Denver-based event design team) to create our newest hand-tied wrap, the Peaches & Cream, based on this excellent Mid Mod moodboard:

Classic 60s color palette. We're in love with the peach and the punch of dark green. And that dusty blue chair! Heaven. Also, note to self: we must do a cactus trio for Flower Bombers.

Given the classic color palette, we wanted to do classic flowers: roses, tulips. One perfect gerbera daisy perfectly captures that Sixties "Pop" vibe: it's such a big, bold, polka dot of color. The dusty kochia (a variety of sage) and the gunni eucalyptus capture the feel of that chair, plus a little bit of ruscus to bring in the darker, glossier green. Bam: a beautiful flower arrangement that reflects a classic idea, but still feels fresh. We love it! And did we mention it's only $35 delivered in Denver Metro? Get on it.

Now we're getting into it, the Dog Days of Summer. These long, hot summer days have us dreaming of cool hikes in the mountains with our dogs. So basically, right now, that's our life: working with beautiful flowers during the week, with dog time on the weekends. Dog time. Flower time. Flowers & Dogs. Two of our favorite things. So we decided to make a contest that combines the two!

Here's how it works: from now through Friday, July 22, 2016, grab your camera or cell phone and get a good photo of your pooch with flowers. Any kind of flowers work: a mountain meadow full of wildflowers (like Freya, below left) , or with the hydrangea bush in the back yard, or with some cut flowers from your neighbor's yard (Dr. Bubba Bones Jones says "Oh BEHAVE!!").

Post your photo on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. Tag @sendflowerbombs and use the hashtag #denverdogsloveflowers and one lucky winner in Denver Metro will receive free flowers! We can deliver to you, or you can share the love and direct them to your BFF. The delivery must be in our Denver Metro delivery zone to be eligible. We'll also repost the winning photo across all of our social media platforms. It's a win-win: free flowers for you, and free social media exposure for your pooch! You might have the next Grumpy Cat!

Have a great weekend! We'll be up in the mountains looking for flowers.

  • The Melon & Mint Fizz!!

We're delivering (free in Denver Metro!) a beautiful flower arrangement based on the story you're about to – hopefully – read. And then we made a cocktail based on that arrangement. Because, duh, why not? Stick around for the pictures!

One of my absolute favorite things about summer is watermelon (I mean, right?). It's the perfect summer party food. Sliced into wedges, or in a perfect burrata salad with ripe tomatoes. Or in drinks! Then there's the color. The deep green rind, the juicy red flesh, the necessary ring of bright white, the deep black seeds. Visually it's just so arresting. And it's a picnic staple, especially for fourth of July. Who among us doesn't have a memory of a summer night with fireworks and grassy knees and forearms sticky with watermelon juice? And now my mouth is watering.

My grandpa was a great gardener (out of necessity), and there was always lots of fresh watermelon all summer long. When I was a little kid my grandma Tizzy used to make watermelon drinks for us as treats. She always added fresh mint too, so in my mind those two flavors are forever locked together. The adults got versions spiked with the moonshine my family made. We used to try to sneak their drinks, but they were always fiercely protected, with or without the booze. Also, I should tell you here that grandma strictly tended the red roses that lined the fence so there were always a few roses in the house, usually on the kitchen counter where she could enjoy them.

So we made an arrangement with that memory in mind. Beautiful watermelon red roses, hot pink sprays, coral and strawberry godetia and bubblegum hypericum berries. And fresh mint directly from Molly's garden! Yep, just stuck right in the middle of the arrangement. It smells divine, the combination of the roses and the fresh spearmint.

And because I don't often say "no" to a summer party cocktail (I mentioned the moonshine, right?), we made a recipe and made the drink and used the mint from the arrangement, because, again, duh, why not?

    The Melon & Mint Fizz!

This recipe is loose and you should consider tweaking to your taste. Depending on how sweet your watermelon is, you may want to add some simple syrup (sugar dissolved fully into water). Also, depending on how juicy your watermelon is, you may have to add a little more water (or a lot of booze!) to spread the juice. This makes a great pitcher drink you can make ahead of time and pull out of the fridge to serve your guests whenever you're ready. There are also like a thousand similar recipes on the internet if you really feel like you need more research, but don't sweat it. It's summer, relax.

    1. Roughly cube a medium seedless watermelon and a cucumber.
    2. Add them to a blender with 3/4 cup water, the juice of one lime, and a small handful of mint leaves (but not too many! Too many will add a touch of bitterness). Puree to smooth.
    3. Strain through a tight mesh colander, and chill. Party tip: this can be made ahead of time and refrigerated overnight!
    4. When you're ready to serve, add your favorite booze, to your taste. In our experience, both clear and brown liquids do just fine. I'm partial to a touch of rum.
    5. Here's where you add a touch of simple syrup, if needed. Don't go too sweet; hopefully the watermelon is doing its job and you don't want to mask that.
    6. Add sparkling water. Fizzzazzzzzzzz!!!
    7. Two options for serving: for an informal summer party on a really hot day, we just serve over ice in a mason jar (indestructible). But this is also a beautiful, elegant drink served well-chilled in a martini glass. If you go the second route, use less sparkling.
    8. Now decorate! Garnish with mint sprigs (grab it straight from the Melon& Mint arrangement!) and lime slices or spun rinds.
    9. Get happy!

    Look! There are pictures:
